The Gilbert Marching Indians
Are Proud to Announce Their 2009 Contest Program:
Aztec
- Ghost Songs
- The Moon Goddess
- Rituals
For nearly 200 years, the Aztec Empire spanned much of what is today Latin America. Though famous for their final struggles against the Spanish Conquistadors, and their sometimes fatal rituals, the Aztec people had a fascinating culture. Aztec music, sometimes referred to as “Ghost Songs” was an important aspect of daily life. Music and religion often went hand-in-hand and music was often used to celebrate their gods as well as to enhance their rituals.
Driven by a strong percussion section, the Gilbert Marching Indians bring to the field their own interpretation of the music from this great culture.
Once again we are happy to have Baljinder (Billy) Sekhon as a member of our design team. He is already at work designing the show music for 2009. If you would like to learn more about this award winning composer, check out his website at www.sekhonmusic.com .
The visual designers once again will be the team of our own Mr. Cox (Drill Design) and Lacy Phipps (Colorguard).
Auditions for Rising 7th and 8th Grade members will be taking place on May 5th.
Keep checking back for more information.
